Anti War Image During World War I, specifically in 1917, there was an robust antiwar movement that started in the United States. Opposing the nation's involvement in foreign military conflicts. This movement comprised of people and organizations that reject the idea of engaging in warfare from other countries.  Research has shown that the antiwar sentiment starting getting more attention early in the war. The U.S. government responded to this with significant repression. According to Smithsonian Magazine,“in June 1917, the government blocked the mailing of anti-war newspapers and arrested 2,000 protesters on charges of inspiring resistance to military recruitment. States passed sedition laws and arrested dissenters” (Trickey, 2018). This shows that the widespread hostility to those toward opposed the war and the lengths to which the government went to silence them. The impact of these actions were impactful as supporter of the U.S involvement in World War I were trying to eliminate...

Privacy Image In today society, technology is tracing everything that we do using digital footprint. Digital footprint has become one of the most important issues that relates to our privacy. Blog Post #3:Eight Values of Free Expression

Image
Twitter Image There are eight values of free expression. The first value is Marketplace of Ideas. This value is important to me because it helps find the easy way to bring to the marketplace. For example, during the debate over climate change policies, there were a lot of different ideas such as climate change policies, various ideas are presented regarding renewable energy sources, carbon taxes, and government regulations. There are different ideas that were talked about but the most effective ways are identifying and implementing, by leading to more sustainable practice and policies.  The value of self-governance is sufficient to me because it helps individuals to be able to participate in shaping their own lives and communities. They are able to do this through free expressions such as citizens saying their opinions for needs or concerns that they have. As well as feeling an need of responsibility for the governance process. This participation helps keep everyone informed a...

Blog Post #2:The Supreme Court

Image
Supreme Court Image 1 Supreme Court Image 2 One thing I learned from the video was that the government officials, including  Supreme Court Justices, take an oath to follow everything from the Constitution.I found this interesting because it gave me an deeper commitment to the officials to have national principles that have to be followed. I was surprised to learn that the lower federal courts were cases are heard by three judges and the Supreme Court has all nine Justice hear every case. I did not realized how different the processes are in the Supreme Court level. Another thing that  surprised me  is that oral arguments typically lasts only about an hour. Since these cases were important, I though that these argument would take much longer. Finally, I learned that the law clerks helped the Justices with researching, drafting and screening petitions. This was unexpected to me because I did not know how much of the work is supported by clerk from behind the scenes.  Th...
